However, in the rush to take advantage of these easy to procure and deploy solutions, a hidden threat is beginning to emerge. This challenge is the proliferation of cloud silos across the enterprise

Does Your Internal Audit Function Really Provide Assurance?
Explore blogs.sap.com Governance & Risk
If you were on the board or in top management and asked the auditor about the results of their audit of an important area, would you be satisfied with a list of their findings? Or would you insist on their professional opinion of the adequacy of the controls in managing the risks?
Why should the board be satisfied with “our audit found these weaknesses” when they can be told “we found these weaknesses, but you don’t have to worry because overall the controls are adequate?

Explore news.techworld.com SAP Corporate , Solution Management
A recent crackdown by SAP AG on companies that it considers are indirectly accessing its software without paying for it could spell trouble for some longstanding customers of the software vendor, an analyst firm said this week. Under SAP's licensing terms, an indirect access scenario occurs when a company's employees or business partners, who are not licensed SAP users, accesses SAP software via a third-party application interface, said Dave Blake CEO of UpperEdge in Boston.

Are enterprise SaaS vendors becoming more like their customers?
Explore Gartner Blog Network Mobile , Cloud
I’ve long thought of the effects of SaaS adoption as consumerization on steroids. It is an en masse instance of consumerization as business users increasingly go to the cloud to get what they need bypassing IT. And what about SaaS vendors? Are they starting to exhibit similar behavior as their customers? Many started as traditional enterprise software companies. It looks like we are now starting to see enterprise software companies mimic behavior of the enterprises they sell to. Look at SAP’s acquisition of Success Factors and Oracle’s acquisitions of Taleo and RightNow. Both companies’ cloud strategies are incomprehensible. Who’s in charge? Are the “business units” or vertically focused groups (meaning the non-central engineering folks,) bypassing their central engineering organization because the latter aren’t responsive enough? Or because the central groups have too much baggage and aren’t leading a strategy that reflects market reality and is responsive to customers in the real world? (Sound like opinions of central IT in your shop?). Sounds a lot like how enterprise business units bypass IT for cloud/SaaS solutions. So…. Who’s in charge in your organization? Who will be in charge of cloud strategies in enterprise software ... (Read Full Article) -

The Cost of a Bad Hire: Never Greater than During an ERP Project
Explore ERP Software Selection People , Change Management , Project Management
Clearly, the “hiring stakes” are high at any point in an organisation’s development. I would argue, however, that they are at their highest during a time of great change or transition, e.g., before or during an ERP implementation. In fact, the financial implications of a bad ERP hire are astronomical. Not only can a bad hire derail the project by not performing his or her anticipated duties, but actually can sour the entire work environment in an incredibly damaging – and long lasting – way. It is no secret to readers of this blog that employees of a company in the midst of an ERP project are frequently defensive, frightened, angry or just plain bewildered.

The Largest Cloud Migration Ever
Explore accenture.com Partners , Project Management , Cloud
With organisations’ interest in cloud-based computing reaching new heights, the focus of work has shifted to migrating entire enterprise platforms. By early 2012, Accenture moved more than 250,000 mailboxes and nearly 11,300 shared-services sites to the cloud, the largest such migration undertaken to date.
