SABMiller spends big on SAP for global procurement
Brewing giant SABMiller has established global procurement and supply chain systems, a key stage in its ongoing business transformation programme.
Operational savings were over $60 million as a result of the programme, it said, though some $296 million was spent in the period designing, building and implementing the software. During the year, some of SABMiller’s largest system implementations were in Peru, Colombia and South Africa.

Logistics living lab opens
National ICT Australia (NICTA) and Europe’s largest application-oriented research firm, Fraunhofer, have announced the opening of the Future Logistics Living Lab at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.
Dedicated to addressing challenges such as rising fuel costs, road congestion, carbon emissions and safety, the Future Logistics Living Lab will provide a physical platform for industry and researchers to work together to develop innovative technology that will provide transport and logistics solutions for the future.
The New South Wales Government is also involved in the project, along with Linfox, Hamburg Sud, Casella Wines, Ericsson, GS1 Australia, Gamma Solutions, Google, Tradegate, XAct Solutions, Victoria University and the University of New South Wales.
NSW Treasurer and Minister for State and Regional Development Eric Roozendaal said the government has committed $400,000 to the project as part of its $36 million Digital Economy Strategy.
"The Future Logistics Living Lab will bring together some of the world's top ICT researchers, software company SAP, industry partners and the NSW Government to develop technologies to boost our transport and logistics sector,” said Roozendaal.
