Pick of the bunch for Finance from Sapphirenow 2013

It was a memorable SAPPHIRENOW last week with everyone - SAP executives and managers; partners and most importantly customers, confident that strategy of in-memory; mobile and cloud was proving to be a remarkable success that was delivering success after success that everyone was happy to share and celebrate. The keynotes were awesome as ever; but here's my pick of the Finance sessions that I witnessed over the three days of the event.

The Mobile Device Is The Electronic Swiss Army Knife

Mobile devices have come a long way from the brick phones of the 70s and 80s. The brick phones existed for a single task - to make calls. You can think of them as a butter knife. It’s great for spreading butter or the occasional cheese dip, but not much else.

      Software Made Simple

With SAP Rapid Deployment solutions, customers can simplify and speed up deployments. A new “solution configurator” will give them even more choice in the process, says Bernd Welz, head of Solution & Knowledge Packaging at SAP.

A Lego set is a good analogy: It includes a box, which shows what you can assemble from the pieces inside; the pieces themselves; and step-by-step instructions. In this analogy, RDS product descriptions are the ‘box’ containing the Lego set; SAP software represents the Lego pieces inside; and automated configuration content, test scripts, and enablement material are the ‘directions.’ Also, like some Lego kits, RDS solutions are modular, giving customers flexibility to combine several packages and add custom elements. We call this assemble-to-order.
