SAP announced that its supervisory board has voted to extend the tenure of Dr. Vishal Sikka as Executive Board member of SAP AG through December 31, 2017. Sikka agreed to the extension of his tenure. “The SAP Supervisory Board expressed great appreciation for the innovation and technology leadership Vishal has provided,” said Hasso Plattner, chairman of the SAP Supervisory Board.

Looks like Julie Roehm, the marketing executive infamously fired from Walmart in 2006, has been hired as SAP's new marketing vice president. Roehm was let go from Walmart over accusations that she had an affair with one of her employees, reports AllThingsD. Walmart also accused her of submitting expenses to Walmart for trips taken with the employee.

SAP has appointed Kevin Gilroy to lead Global Indirect Channels. Reporting directly to Eric Duffaut, president of Global Ecosystem & Channels, Gilroy is tasked with accelerating global indirect revenue through key SAP partners and developing new business opportunities by extending both the SAP channel partner ecosystem and alternate channels.

SAP's hot new software, HANA, has been a relative flop, said BofA Analyst Chandra Sriraman this morning. HANA was hailed as groundbreaking when it was introduced about a year ago. It sits in a computer's memory so it literally runs while the computer processes transactions. There's just one problem: No one is buying it.

SAP Africa has announced the appointment of Agnes Gathaiya to the position of Public Sector Director for East Africa. Agnes will be responsible for driving strategy and executing plans that will further build SAP's reputation as a leading provider of business solutions in East Africa. "I look forward to my new position and aim to make East Africa one of the best run regions on the African continent," says Agnes. "The best businesses globally run on SAP, and our goal is to work with governments and businesses in East Africa to accelerate the development of both the public and private sector."

SAP Africa has announced its plans to drive 50% of its software sales through its partner network by 2015. Speaking at the SAP Africa Partner Awards 2010 and Quality Awards 2011 ceremony last week, SAP executives used the platform to celebrate the achievements of their partners and express their commitment to growing the ecosystem further over the coming years.

SAP AG will spend more than US $2 billion through to 2015 to grow its business in China, demonstrating its long-term strategic commitment to the world's second-largest economy. “We have successfully grown our business in China over the past 20 years and now want to scale our operations to fully meet the needs of both enterprises and our ecosystem,” said Bill McDermott, co-CEO, SAP AG. “Our SAP Labs and SAP Research facilities there will continue to drive innovation for our Chinese customer base. We will also create more research and development facilities, hire thousands of people, train more experts and consultants and bring our world-class benchmarking methodology to China — all aimed at helping drive sustainable growth through 'informatisation'.”   SAP plans will see spending and investment in four key areas: 1. Creating solutions: The company plans to drive further alignment between SAP and Sybase in China, with SAP Labs in China to be the primary innovation centre for the development of new solutions tailored to meet country requirements. 2. Jim Snabe, the co-chief executive of SAP, says the software company is looking for further, large acquisition opportunities, to build on its purchases of Business Objects and Sybase. “We’ve proven twice that we can buy big and be successful with that. With Business Objects, which we bought a couple of years ago, we came into the analytic space in a very strong way and we are now a clear market leader. Last year we acquired Sybase to bring the mobile technology to business software. So we can and we are also, of course, looking for such opportunities,” Mr Snabe told the Financial Times.

SAP and Sybase have unveiled the next wave of mobile apps for business, and announced the introduction of an SAP Store for mobile apps, at SAPPHIRE NOW and SAP TechEd in Madrid. Among the new apps are the SAP Electronic Medical Record mobile app, which provides instant access to patient records in the healthcare environment; 2.0 versions of the SAP Field Service, CRM Sales and Retail Execution apps; SAP Citizen Connect, for communication between citizens and government; SAP Strategy Management mobile app and SAP BusinessObjects Mobile software for mobile analytics; and for mobile workers, the SAP Transport Notification and Status, Transport Tendering, GRC Access Approver and GRC Policy Survey mobile apps. The app store, to be accessible via a website and initially through an on-device app for iOS, with versions for Blackberry, Android and other operating systems to follow, will make it easy for enterprise-based customers to access apps quickly. With SAP apps and certified apps built by the broad SAP partner ecosystems available through the app store, customers will initially be able to download and evaluate the apps before they buy, with plans for SAP to enable direct purchase via the SAP Store soon.
